N.B. CONCERT CANCELLED DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS!
'The Songtellers' featuring Lisa Richards, Paula Punch & C.D. Lyons together with 'The Marvellous Hearts'
Three unique songwriters joining forces for a show that revels in the power of the song.
When C.D. Lyons embarked on his new project, it was a case of following his heart. The seasoned musician, who has performed at festivals all over Australia, including Byron Bay Bluesfest, the Woodford Folk Festival, the Blue Mountains Music Festival and the Gympie Muster, wrote a bunch of songs that felt like they needed a new home and so the Marvellous Hearts were born.
If his previous band, the Blues Preachers evoked classic blues of the 1930s and ’40s, then the Marvellous Hearts take their starting point from the ’60s and ’70s. They’ve been compared to Bob Dylan and the Band and have been played across the country on Double J, and Triple J as well as community radio and the ABC.
Similarly, Lisa Richards has been carving out her own musical corner of the world for a while, blurring the boundaries of folk, jazz and blues in her songwriting. Exploring themes of life, love, joy, human frailty and death. She returned to Australia after many years living and making music in the USA.
Her songs have appeared on compilations, sharing the track list with heavyweights including Adele, Nina Simone and Corinne Bailey Rae. She’s performed at The Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Rocky Mountain Folks Festival, Merlefest, SXSW and CMJ. She’s had airplay in Australia, the USA and Europe on both commercial and community radio and the ABC.
Indie Folk artist Paula Punch has been around music and music making for most of her life. Ditching a blossoming career as an opera singer, she chose to pick up an acoustic guitar and write songs instead. Her recent single “Full Moon Rising” reached No 4 on the AMRAP Metro chart, and on the AusCountryMusic chart. Her first studio album 'Song to the Trees’ is releasing in July 2021. Recent live appearances include opening the stage for Russell Morris, Karise Eden and Renee Geyer.
Paula, C.D. and Lisa came together through a mutual friend and began plotting a series of concerts that would feature the three songwriters and one all star band, (The Marvellous Hearts). The Songtellers were born.
“We take the audience on a journey weaving in and out of each others songs and stories.”
"The world is a cornucopia of stories, all waiting to be told. The personal, the universal, the visible and the invisible. That's what humans have always done, collected and told stories”.
Special guest will be the renowned harmonica player, Christian Marsh!
