Offbeat NBSC - Hear the Future Now!
Offbeat NBSC is a Jazz Impro Program for bands based at the Northern Beaches Secondary College, Freshwater Senior Campus. Students receive tuition and guidance under the tutelage of renowned Australian composer Colin Bright. Our three Offbeat NBSC bands focus specifically on improvisation. We play jazz standards, blues, funk & original compositions. The bands play many gigs: Manly Jazz Festival, the Brookvale Show, Vietnam War Vets Memorial Service and many more, including the War Vets Village at Collaroy Plateau. The program focuses on students learning how to make their own music through improvisation. They develop a deep understanding of how music works through theory and exploration. Improvisation unites elements of melody, harmony, rhythm and timbre in an expression ‘of the moment’. Improvisation is composition in Real Time.
