Baggage & Stuff

Baggage & Stuff is a Sydney-based five-piece collaboration between two veteran singer-songwriter groups: Men With Day Jobs, a popular trio at the Humph from 2013, and duo Aubrey & Purton, who have joined them here on one occasion.

Baggage and Stuff Photo 400.jpgAll five started to work together around 2017, and the friendship blossomed as they won acclaim for original and spirited performances here and at other Sydney venues like the Gasoline Pony, Gaelic Club, Dukes Place and the tall ship James Craig (pictured); and at festivals around Sydney and beyond.

They’re back to the Humph with songs from their new album “Baggage & Stuff”, released last year – and a couple even newer! Their originals run a wide gamut of genres, tempos, moods and subjects. They share a passion for music and life in general, a concern for people and the wider world, a feeling for Sydney’s many stories, and a sense of humour that manages to be both sharp and daggy. All five sing, play and write prolifically. Individually and in various combos they’ve delighted hundreds of venues and fests; appeared on radio and TV; won major awards for musical, radio and stage writing; had books published; busked in far-flung places; backed big names from Jimmy Little and Joe Camilleri, Ross Wilson and John Williamson. Their songs have been covered by artists worldwide, and piled up YouTube hits.

Between them, members have racked up more than a century of collaboration. Guitarist and prizewinning writer/satirist Stafford Sanders and pianist/multi-instrumentalist/chief producer Rod Crundwell are Northern Beach kids, staunch musical partners since meeting at school, and once appeared on Countdown in sailor suits! Rod and ace bassist Kim Constable have spent decades together in Ol’ 55, On the Prowl and backed big-name artists. “A-list ukelelist” and storytelling historian Pete Purton and multi-instrumentalist and crowd-whisperer Dennis Aubrey have gigged and busked for years in innumerable and exotic places.

Said Wayne after a previous gig:

“Strong singers, fantastic songs including really good originals, and a very entertaining (often hilarious) stage presence. They’ve got the lot!”
